Seeing you, hearing your heart

Regina Riley Counselling

Are you facing life transitions or relationship challenges? Perhaps a past trauma or battling with inner conflicts is holding you back. You may be struggling with cultural identity and diversity issues. At times, life can feel overwhelming and challenging. Maybe you’re unable to cope daily, or you feel stuck in negative patterns of behaviour and thinking.

Reaching out for help and support, where you can self-explore and process complex issues, is the first step in empowering lasting and positive change. Everyone can maximise their potential. As an integrative counsellor, I draw upon a blend of evidence-based modalities and personalised approaches to empower you on your path of self-discovery and resilience. With person-centred at the core of my approach, the therapeutic relationship is central to our work together.

Counselling In Ramsgate & Online

I offer short- and long-term counselling either online or in-person at my Ramsgate-based therapy room. I work with adults, children, young people, and couples across a range of issues, such as abuse, anger management, anxiety, bereavement, depression, emotional distress and general counselling, health adjustment problems, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, stress and work-related issues, trauma, domestic violence, cultural issues, couple counselling and pre-marital counselling.

As we grow we change as individuals, and so do our relationships. They evolve and rarely stay the same over any length of time. Couple counselling offers the opportunity to explore any relationship difficulties in a safe and supportive setting. Each person’s perspective is heard. I will facilitate exploration and understanding of current difficulties as well as considering the context and history of these challenges.

Faith based counselling and sessions spoken in siNdebele are also offered – please contact me for more information.

About Me

Hello,

I'm Regina Riley, a qualified integrative counsellor and registered British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) member.

I am a qualified integrative counsellor with a Level 4 Diploma. I was born in Zimbabwe where I worked in the education sector for 15 years as a primary school teacher before moving to the UK over 20 years ago. I speak siNdebele fluently and am able to offer counselling in siNdebele language too.

It’s a humbling experience to be a part of a person’s therapeutic journey; seeing them, over time, begin to self-accept and grow self-awareness to bring about positive change is so rewarding.

To book an appointment, call me 07946 763463 or email me.

Integrative Counselling

I am an integrative counsellor. Integrative counselling is a combined approach to counselling that brings together different elements of specific therapies. I use different techniques and theories to suit individual clients, as each person is unique. My approach is also informed by Attachment theory, which offers the opportunity to explore our feelings and issues and how our key attachment figures have shaped those.

I also work creatively. Creative work helps clients bypass the mind and go to the heart to fully access their deep feelings. It helps access and unblock unconscious material. Clients who struggle with words can benefit from creative integration, as it allows the use of less words to tap into their unconscious. I use pictures, cards and various different items.

FAQs

WHAT ISSUES DO YOU WORK WITH?

I work with adults, children, young people, and couples across a range of issues, such as abuse, anger management, anxiety, bereavement, depression, emotional distress and general counselling, health adjustment problems, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, stress and work-related issues, trauma, domestic violence, cultural issues, couple counselling and pre-marital counselling.

HOW CAN INTEGRATIVE COUNSELLING WORK FOR ME IF YOU WILL NOT BE GIVING ME ADVICE OR DIRECTION?

Our relationship is vital in our work. To help develop a therapeutic relationship of trust, I will provide you with a safe, non-judgemental space where you can feel comfortable bringing up your difficulties and expressing your feelings. If you can explore complex thoughts and feelings in session, you may experience life outside therapy. If you feel heard and understood, you may feel more confident and empowered to move forward.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

We regularly review how many sessions you’re likely to need. I offer short-term and long-term work that can be open-ended, too. Most sessions start weekly or fortnightly to build momentum so you can make gradual and steady progress towards your goals. Each session builds on the last, so keeping sessions frequent enables you to progress more quickly. Throughout the counselling process, we work together to discuss your likely requirements.

WILL OUR DISCUSSIONS BE CONFIDENTIAL?

Everything we talk about is confidential, though there are two exceptions, such as if you or others are at risk of serious harm or if there is a legal requirement, for example, evidence of criminal activity.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL FROM MY GP TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?

No. You are free to access counselling whenever you need extra support. Please get in touch with me directly. To book an appointment email me.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED COUNSELLING?

When you feel you're struggling and unable to cope or move forward, you must ask for help. Everyone deserves support, especially when life becomes challenging and overwhelming. Counselling is a gentle process where we work collaboratively at a comfortable pace for you with complete confidentiality.

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER MY THERAPY SESSIONS?

Try to create some downtime for yourself after each counselling session for some quiet reflection. It’s common to feel a range of emotions during and after your therapy session ends. You may feel incredibly relieved to have talked openly and feel heard or understood for the first time. Sometimes, you may feel upset if a session has brought up painful or difficult memories.
